 BARCLAYS NEW FUTURES

Barclays New Futures FREE Celebratory Conference 2005

Barclays New Futures has been at the forefront of helping schools develop citizenship for over ten years. Since 1995 over 1000 schools have received a total of £10 million in cash and resources each year to carry out citizenship projects in their community. More than 500,000 people have benefited from Barclays New Futures activities.

To celebrate Barclays New Futures achievements and enable others to learn from this groundbreaking sponsorship a FREE Celebratory Conference is being held on November 15, 2005, at RIBA, London.

The Barclays New Futures FREE Celebratory Conference will examine how citizenship in schools has progressed over the past decade and explore ways forward for its continued growth and development in education and beyond.

Hosted by Diane Louise Jordan, the conference will be attended by education specialists, think tanks, NGOs, teachers, students, and citizenship organisations.

Speakers:
David Bell, Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Schools
Martin Mosley, Consumer & Community Affairs Director, Barclays PLC
Elizabeth Hoodless DBE. Executive Director, CSV
Former Barclays New Futures students will talk about the skills they gained and how they are using them now.

Six workshop sessions provide delegates with an opportunity to explore citizenship across a wide range of issues with their peers. Each workshop will be facilitated by students and teachers who have taken part in a Barclays New Futures project addressing that particular workshop theme. Delegates can choose two sessions from a list of six:

1. Community Outreach
2. Rights & Responsibilities
3. Global Awareness
4. Student Leadership
5. Controversial Issues
6. Coping With Transition
