Nationwide Conferences

Eleven Barclays New Futures Conferences take place around the UK every year for schools that have been taking part in Barclays New Futures. Kallaway organises the conferences, arranges travel, accommodation and supporting media activity.

The conferences enable students and teachers to find out about different Barclays New Futures schemes run by a variety of schools and learn from these experiences. The conferences see a mix of state, private and special needs pupils working together.

Each school delegation presents their Barclays New Futures scheme to the other pupils and teachers. Pupils also take part in group activities. Led by Community Service Volunteers (CSV) and Barclays Staff, groups are made up of pupils from different schools, for some students, this is often the first time they have worked with children from different background and abilities. The activities enable students share and develop ideas to solve particular problems presented to them. At the close of the conference these ideas are presented to rest of the conference.

"Projects that help young people tackle social issues and benefit their community are at the heart of Barclays New Futures. The regional conferences enable school children from a wide range of schools to come away invigorated and eager to put into practice what they have learned from other schools undertaking different, but equally important, community projects."

"Public speaking was a real responsibility. It mattered if we messed up, as lots of people would be affected which makes a lot of pressure but it was really rewarding when we had finished."
