Barclays New Futures
The sponsorship was specifically created to meet the challenge of developing citizenship skills in young people and help them become more active in their communities. Long before Citizenship entered the National Curriculum, Barclays New Futures was helping young people develop skills for life and work through school and community projects.
Barclays New Futures started in 1995 and concludes in 2006, with a celebratory conference taking place in November 2005. "Kallaway has worked with Barclays to set the aims and objectives
and then ensure that these have shaped and driven the work accordingly.
This has also enabled the projects to grow and develop and allowed Barclays
to become the acknowledged leader in areas such as education sponsorship." "I have sat as a judge for Barclays New Futures and watched
their presentations: to get these sizeable grants schools must demonstrate
some extra-curricular scheme which makes a difference both within the
institution and in its community, and there are some brilliant and innovative
ones out there." "The funding from Barclays New Futures has allowed us to develop
exciting and inspirational activities to benefit the school and wider
community. The flexibility of the scheme has contributed to the success
of the project. We could be creative in meeting our objectives. It was
so refreshing not to have the financial restrictions which normally apply
to the implementation of initiatives in a school setting - Thank you."
