Eugene Skeef FRSA
Eugene is a South African percussionist, composer,
poet, educationalist and animateur who has been living
in London since 1980. Eugene is active on the international
new music scene and brings his extensive experience, as
an advisor, to the Contemporary Music Network, a department
of the Arts Council of England (ACE). He also acts as
an assessor for the ACE and London Arts. Through his imaginative
leadership as artistic director Eugene facilitates international
cultural and educational activities. He has offered exiled
South African artists and other marginalised communities
tours at venues throughout Britain. Eugene is at the forefront
of contemporary music, collaborating with innovative artists
like Anthony Tidd, Brian Eno, Bheki Mseleku, Tunde Jegede
and Eddie Parker. He is also researching for a book on
the healing properties of drumming.
Eugene has worked in education for many years through
schools, prisons and orchestras including the London Philharmonic
Orchestra (LPO), London Sinfonietta, National Youth Orchestra
and Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) running workshops
based on a self-developed technique using animated breath,
voice, movement and rhythm.
