Gillian Dibden

In November 2002, Gillian Dibden was awarded the Sainsbury's 'Choir Director of the Year' title, recognising both the success of the Berkshire Young Musicians Trust choirs over a long period and her contribution to music education over the last 40 years. Her Youth, Girls' and Boys' Choirs all achieved success at national and international levels.

Through her professional training at the Royal College of Music, Gillian developed her own instrumental skills as a principal study pianist and second study 'cellist, performing regularly with the RCM orchestra. However, on entering the teaching profession in 1962, it became apparent that her natural talent was in working with choirs.

Gillian works as a freelance choral specialist. She runs courses for teachers and leads workshops for choirs around the UK and loves working with children, young people and adults. She has set up new choirs for young people from South Bucks and Berkshire near her home in Taplow, and has also been appointed Academic Executive of the Montgomery-Holloway Music Trust.
