Oakham School Chamber Choir, Rutland
The Oakham School Chamber Choir is a 25 voice choir
drawn from the very best members of the school's 100
strong Chapel Choir. Oakham School has a very strong
musical tradition, and the Chamber Choir is one of five
choirs, three orchestras, four bands and numerous chamber
ensembles that rehearse each week and collectively give
over 70 concerts each year.
The Chamber Choir performs a wide range of accompanied
and "a capella" repertoire as well as maintaining
a tradition of performing a major oratorio each year
(Haydn's "The Creation" in January 2005) with
all the solo arias sung by members of the choir. It
is the only auditioned choir in the school, and it includes
members who were formerly cathedral choristers as well
as current members of the National Youth Choirs. The
choir is conducted by the school's Director of Music,
Peter Davis, who joined Oakham in September 2005.
