White Rosettes

The White Rosettes, from Leeds, were formed in 1977 by a small group of women wishing to pursue their own barbershop singing after husbands and partners had joined the local men's group. They now have more than 50 members from all walks of life: from teachers to bank managers, secretaries to pub landladies.

The White Rosettes are current National Ladies Barbershop Champions winning their 10th Gold Medal in Cardiff on the 22nd of October 2005 with 'A' scores across the board and a clean sweep of the Singing, Music and Presentation trophies.

The White Rosettes are no strangers to the Choir of the Year competition; they reached the semi-finals of Sainsbury's Choir of the Year Competition in 1990 and 1994, and the finals in 2000 where we won the title 'Sainsbury's Single Voice Choir of the Year'. Last year they competed in the Final of Radio 3 Choir of the Year, coming 2nd in the adult category.

They have just returned from their first trip to Spain, where they performed in the Benidorm Palace Theatre (and soaked up the sunshine!) Over the years they have also had the opportunity to perform in Holland, Germany, Canada and the USA.

Their Musical Director is Sally McLean, a three times quartet gold medallist. Sally has sung with the chorus since 1982 and became MD in 1998, her drive and passion for the chorus keeps taking them to new heights. The chorus put their success down to their love of close harmony singing, great musical leadership from Sally and the Music Team and a lot of hard work!
