Thanks to more sporting fixtures Cardiff was completely
packed all weekend - on Saturday we had to contend
with jubilant Irish rugby fans celebrating their
European Cup win and at the end of the day on Sunday
we had to race to the station to try and get out
of Cardiff before the Watford fans - only to find
ourselves queuing with thousands and thousands of
disappointed Leeds fans - not the quite the perfect
ending to what was a fantastic weekend of singing!

We arrived in Cardiff on Saturday just as 70,000
football fans poured out of the Millennium Stadium
following a thrilling FA Cup final! We forced our
way through the crowds and managed to carry out
our site visit without too many incidents. Unfortunately
a hotel full of celebrating football fans meant
that the Choir of the Year team didn't get much
sleep before our own big day in Cardiff!

While the rest of City geared up for the Edinburgh
10K fun run we had our own singing marathon to worry
about as we prepared for the arrival of choirs from
all over Scotland and a few from England.
The staff at Queen's Hall didn't know what was about
to hit them as 800 singers and their supporters
descended on the hall throughout the day - there
wasn't a quiet spot in the house as people warmed
up and rehearsed all over the place! The two choirs
from Inverclyde and their fans took over the whole
of the Gallery - and loudly supported all the other
choirs as well as themselves!

| Aaah, Basingstoke. Home of roundabouts and of
course, The Anvil. One of the South West's finest
venues plays host to the Philharmonia, the Solid
Silver Sixties Show, An Evening with Joan Collins
and on Sunday 9 April, Choir of the Year.
We had two new adjudicators for this audition
day, Eugene Skeef and Stuart Barr. They weren't
quite sure what they were letting themselves in
for, but after some great singing they left the
day firmly converted to Choir of the Year.
