
Melisma from St Margaret's School, Exeter
St Margaret's School, Exeter combines an excellent
academic record with national recognition for Music
and Drama.
The choir numbers 36 and ranges from 13-18 in age. It
rehearses twice a week amidst the demands of netball,
hockey, Duke of Edinburgh scheme, Ten Tors, CCF and
a myriad of other opportunities at school. The girls
in the choir are dedicated, enthusiastic and very funny,
often reducing rehearsals to moments of hysterical laughter.
The girls of St Margaret's have recorded three CDs including
a Christmas CD in aid of Hospiscare, and give many performances
in the South West to help raise money for charity, including
two recent performances for the Exeter Leukaemia Fund,
sharing a programme with the world-famous Morriston
Orpheus Choir.
Semi-Finalists in the 2005 BBC Radio 3 Choir of the
Competition, Melisma also has also received Outstanding
Performance Awards at the Finals of the National Festival
of Music for Youth Competition in July 2002, 2003, 2004,
2005 and 2006.
The Choir was also invited to perform in the Schools'
Proms in the Royal Albert Hall in November 2002 and
performed there again in November 2005.
The choir was also chosen as one of three finalists
in BBC1's Songs of Praise Celebrate Festival,
televised in 2003.
