PR campaign and public consultation created by Kallaway

The transformation of Southwark's Elephant & Castle area into a major new destination is one of the largest regeneration schemes in Europe. An earlier attempt by the council to launch this significant programme of change had failed months before; creating a significant challenge for this second attempt. Southwark Council appointed Kallaway to help overcome the cynicism that the failure had created and win support from the local community and developers. Kallaways plan addressed the previous failure head on, launched a new brand, engaged local press and demonstrated that previous obstacles had been dealt with.

Key messages and case studies demonstrated the investment potential of the Elephant & Castle and the significant tangible improvements for local residents and businesses. From high-level briefings for the national and property press through to a public consultation programme for local residents plans were clearly articulated and opportunities for feedback were pro-actively managed.

The effort paid dividends, at the close of the public consultation 80 per cent of respondents expressed their support for the plans, providing an ideal environment for the Council to move ahead with the Elephant and Castle redevelopment.
