Akram Khan
Akram Khan is one of the most original and
celebrated choreographers on the international
dance scene. Acclaimed for his physicality
and hybrid dance language rooted in the
ancient Indian dance of kathak, and evolving
constantly to embrace new art forms and
collaborations.
In 2008, Akram Khan will embark on his most
challenging partnerships to date. He will
collaborate with dancers from the National
Ballet of China, bringing together artists
of different cultures to find a common language
through dance, a venture which exemplifies
Khans intercultural vision. Bridge
will premiere in Beijing on 25 January 2008
before touring to Shanghai. The UK premiere
will be in Liverpool European Capital
of Culture 2009 in March 2008.
He will also collaborate with the Oscar-winning
actress Juliette Binoche a new comer to
dance, on a project with will premiere at
the National Theatre, London in September
2008.
Currently Akram Khan is touring the world
with two productions Sacred Monsters,
a collaboration with French prima ballerina
Sylvie Guillem and Zero Degrees, a collaboration
with Finnish Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Antony
Gormley and Nitin Sawney.
