Riboud says of this contact sheet: "Henri Cartier-Bresson converted me to an ancient viewfinder camera that had the strange characteristic of inverting the image. “It is the same effect the renaissance masters used when they looked at their canvases with a mirror to check the composition”. Armed with a single roll of film, I went for a walk near the Eiffel Tower. I hung on to the little spiral staircase and saw men armed with brushes, more like acrobats than painters. I was preparing to centre my picture when I suddenly saw one of them hanging upside down in my viewfinder. That miraculous viewfinder, which was supposed to help me gauge the correct balance of my composition, very nearly made me lose my own! I showed the contact sheet to Robert Capa, who singled out one of the shots. David King, Muhammad Ali at work in the gym, 1974. Kate Moss, Harpers Bazaar, 1997, Contact SheetDavid Sims
