Rivington Place
Announces Appointment of Kallaway
17 July 2007, London: Rivington Place,
the new £8m public building dedicated
to the continuous display of culturally
diverse visual arts, has appointed Kallaway
to handle public relations in the run up
to its launch at the beginning of October
this year. The building designed by leading
architect David Adjaye is the first new-build
public gallery in London since the Hayward
Gallery 40 years ago. It will be part of
Hoxtons thriving cultural cluster
that also includes White Cube, Circus Space
and Spitalfields Market to name but a few.
Rivington Place (www.rivingtonplace.org),
which opens to the public on 5 October,
celebrates the vision of two organisations:
inIVA (the Institute of International Visual
Arts) and Autograph ABP of establishing
a permanent space in which to develop and
profile international issues and perspectives
in contemporary art that are relevant now.
Rivington Place is supported by a £5.9
million Arts Council Englands Lottery
Capital 2 programme grant. Barclays Bank
plc is the Rivington Place founding corporate
partner, contributing £1.1m toward
the development.
Rivington Place is the culmination of a
20 year history in which these organisations
worked to champion fresh perspective on
the visual arts. In particular, Rivington
Place will profile work from artists and
places not normally seen in the UK and influence
new generations of visitors, artists and
arts professionals.
Professor Stuart Hall, cultural theorist
and Rivington Place vice chairman, said:
Difference is complex it
alters and evolves, but does not go away.
Difference matters and will continue to
matter, it provides an incredible source
of richness, new ways of seeing and creativity.
Rivington Place is a landmark building which
celebrates diversity and the exciting and
essential contribution it makes to the visual
arts.
Kallaway is a public relations, sponsorship
and events agency specialising in arts and
culture. Recently, it launched Wellcome
Collection, a £30m cultural venue
from the Wellcome Trust which brings together
medicine, life and art under one roof for
the first time. It is also creating communications
campaigns for Akram Khan Company, Modern
Art Oxford, Campaign for Drawing, Russian
ACT and City of London.

Rivington Place Funding Supporters
Arts Council England works to get more art
to more people in more places. It develops
and promotes the arts across England, acting
as an independent body at arm's length from
government. Between 2006 and 2008, it will
invest £1.1 billion of public money
from government and the National Lottery
in supporting the arts. This is the bedrock
of support for the arts in England. It believes
that the arts have the power to change lives
