River & Rowing
Museum
The River & Rowing Museum, Henley on
Thames is one of the UKs leading regional
and sporting museums, attracting over 90,000
visitors a year. The Museum, an independent
charity, also has a purpose built education
centre visited by over 14,000 children a
year, who use the museums galleries
and striking outdoor riverside environment
to learn and discover.
The River & Rowing Museum celebrates
three themes explored through a wide variety
of exhibitions and events across four galleries
and special exhibitions:
The
past, present and future of the River Thames;
The
historic riverside community of Henley on
Thames;
The
international sport of rowing.
One the Museums major success has
been The Wind in the Willows exhibition
which recreates the timeless E H Shepard
illustrations from Kenneth Grahames
famous novel.
"The River and Rowing Museum is
not only of great significance to Henley
which attracts rowers to its regattas from
all over the world, but to my chosen sport
which has deep roots in this country and
which until now has lacked a centre to record
and celebrate its achievements"
Sir Steve Redgrave CBE DL
