Mary Rose Museum

The painstaking restoration of Henry VIII’s Tudor warship the Mary Rose following her rescue from the sea bed in 1982 is an unprecedented achievement. But when a stunning new museum opened in 2013, reuniting the ship with its artefacts for the first time, it became clear that the media thought such an attraction had been open for years. To ensure an effective launch we broadened the museum’s appeal from “warship” to “Tudor time capsule”, offering families and international visitors a unique insight into this fascinating period in history. Central to the launch was our creative idea of “The Journey of The Ship’s Bell” from the wreck site into the new museum, giving journalists an unfolding story full of historical insight. Every quality national newspaper and broadcast outlet ran a major feature or report, and #MaryRose trended at number two on Twitter throughout launch day. The Mary Rose once again captured the nation’s imagination: visitor numbers were 168% higher than forecast.
