Unicorn
Theatre For Children
The new £13m
Unicorn theatre is
the first ever purpose
designed professional
theatre for children
in the UK. It is currently
being built near Tower
Bridge on Tooley Street,
Southwark and is due
to open in late 2005.
Unicorn is still actively
seeking funding and requires £500,000 to reach
its target.
When Unicorn opens
it will become the
country's first
national flagship
of theatre for children
and an international
centre of excellence.
The theatre harnesses
the latest architecture
and design to create
a modern theatre
space that will
play, and provide
arts education,
to over 100,000
children a year
for generations
to come.
The Unicorn Theatre
is within the More
London development,
and Foster &
Partners master
plan for the area.
Unicorn is designed
by Keith Williams
Architects.
"Our future
rests with our young
people, and Unicorn
is a unique coming
together of children
from all backgrounds
and it is without
question entitled
to unparalleled
support."
Lord Attenborough
"Unicorn
is one of the best
things we have in
the UK. The new
Unicorn Theatre
will be a centre
of joy, story telling,
fun and colour.
It will help all
the country's children
grow and find a
sense of themselves
and delight them
totally".
