 UNICORN THEATRE: OPENING SEASON

Barclays First Class

Barclays PLC and Unicorn have announced, Barclays First Class, a new community initiative from Barclays PLC, that will enable over 1,500 school children - drawn from schools in each of London's 33 boroughs - to see TOM'S MIDNIGHT GARDEN the first ever production at the new £13m Unicorn Theatre.

Images of schools visiting the Unicorn Theatre as part of Barclays First Class can be downloaded from the foot of this page. Photographs of Tom's Midnight Garden and of the Unicorn Theatre can also be provided. Please contact Kallaway to request.

Schools from every borough in London are being invited to bring a class of children to the theatre. The selected schools are those serving some of the most disadvantaged communities in their borough, emphasising Unicorn's and Barclays' commitment to make the new theatre accessible to all children regardless of background or parental income.

The preview week starts on 24 November and runs through to Unicorn's opening on 1 December.

Barclays will provide transport, tickets, t-shirts, programmes and ice creams as part of the initiative.

Debbie Philips, Community Manager, Barclays PLC said: "At Barclays we are committed to communities and we are delighted to support the new Unicorn Theatre. This is a great opportunity for us to help make a real and lasting difference to the local community".

Tony Graham, Artistic Director, Unicorn Theatre said: "The transformative power of theatre in the lives of children is a belief that drives the Unicorn. We have always aimed to reach out to all children regardless of their circumstances, and Barclays First Class helps us do this in the opening week of the theatre, underlining our commitment to access for all from the very beginning."

Barclays First Class has enabled children who would never normally, or rarely, be able to go to the theatre, to have an amazing experience. We have chosen 30 children who have been especially well behaved or worked hard to come today, a very special treat and something they will really remember. The children are very excited."
