Description: Plastinated
body slice with frontal
cut on display in the
Medicine Now gallery.
Produced by Institute
for Plastination. Approximately
70 per cent of our bodies
consist of fluids. In
this exhibit vacuum processes
have been used to replace
them with various plastics
that only decay extremely
slowly. Specimens like
this, donated by the individuals,
are used in medicine for
research and teaching
purposes. Their public
display has attracted
audiences in their millions,
but also considerable
controversy. On loan from
Institute for Plastination,
Heidelberg.
